The 2012 Span Tables for Joists and Rafters updates the 2005 edition and provides a simplified system for determining allowable joist and rafter spans for typical loads encountered in one- and two-family dwellings and is referenced in the 2012 International Building Code.

A companion Supplement to Span Tables for Joists and RaftersDesign Values for Joists and Rafters tabulates allowable bending (Fb) and modulus of elasticity (E) design values for visually graded and mechanically graded dimension lumber.

This edition has been updated to the 2012 NDS Design Values Supplement. Changes include new design values for Coast Sitka Spruce and Yellow Cedar and updates to Northern Species design values.
If there is a change to lumber design values in 2012, affected AWC design standards and design aids would be amended accordingly. Once amended, electronic versions of those documents will be available on the AWC website. To ensure that those downloading this document can be made aware of any updates, this version of 2012 Design Values for Joists and Rafters is password protected. ABOUT SOUTHERN PINE VALUES
The American Lumber Standard Committee (ALSC) Board of Review has approved changes to design values for all grades and all sizes of visually-graded Southern Pine and Mixed Southern Pine lumber with a recommended effective date of June 1, 2013 to allow for their orderly implementation.
  AWC has developed addenda and other updates to use with new construction designed in accordance with its standards and design tools.
  AWC has also developed recommended amendments to span tables for new construction designed in accordance with ICC model building codes.
