DCA1

DCA 1 - Flame Spread Performance of Wood Products
Free Download - PDF
Provides building code accepted flame spread ratings for various wood products and species which are normally used as interior finishes for walls, ceilings, and floors in buildings.

AWC is in the process of updating DCA 1. Your input regarding use of this information in the market place will be helpful during this revision process. Click here for the 5 question survey.

DCA2 DCA 2 - Design of Fire-Resistive Exposed Wood Members
Free Download - PDF
Illustrates how exposed heavy timber and glued laminated columns and beams can be designed to meet building code fire resistance requirements. Also see TR10 - Calculating the Fire Resistance of Exposed Wood Members.
DCA3 DCA 3 - Fire Rated Wood Floor and Wall Assemblies
Free Download - PDF
Describes how interior and exterior wood-frame walls and wood I-joist floors can be used to meet building code requirements for fire resistive assemblies. Additional information:

DCA4 DCA 4 - CAM for Calculating and Demonstrating Assembly Fire Endurance
Free Download - PDF
Describes a procedure to calculate the fire endurance rating of a wood-frame wall, roof, or floor/ceiling assembly. The procedure is based on combining previously determined fire resistance time values of each separate component of the assembly without the need for additional fire testing.

DCA5 DCA 5 - Post-Frame Buildings
Free Download - PDF
Provides guidance to post-frame building designers for meeting the requirements of the 2000 International Building Code and to confirm that a properly designed post-frame building is in fact code compliant.
DCA6

DCA 6 - Prescriptive Residential Deck Construction Guide - 2009 IRC Version with May 2013 Addendum
Free Download - PDF*
Includes guidance on provisions of the International Residential Code (IRC) pertaining to single level residential wood deck construction. Provisions contained in this document that are not included in the IRC are considered good practice recommendations. Based on the limited number of changes to deck provisions in the 2012 IRC, the DCA6 2009 IRC version can be used in jurisdictions enforcing the 2012 IRC. The May 2013 Addendum contains new tables and other criteria to use with DCA6 based on changes to design values for all grades and sizes of visually-graded Southern Pine lumber effective June 1, 2013.

Learn about DCA 6* changes here.

Building officials may print a reasonable number of copies of DCA 6 for use with permits.

*Please Note: The entire DCA 6 cannot be posted to a building department website.

Updates and revisions are frequently being made to the document so it is recommended that building departments post a link (http://www.awc.org/codes/dcaindex.html) to DCA 6 on their websites. Also, AWC has developed a one-page PDF that can be posted to the jurisdiction’s website to provide an overview and links to the AWC document.
